storm going away.

there is debri everywhere. i mean trees in the parking lot and floating everywhere. (they were floating in the parking lot). Around the safe house we saw 4 large trees get ripped out by the roots. when the safe house started to sway in the wind we left to a better place. we hid in the upper floor of the marina office (the lower floor was flooded) untill the waters started to recede. now we are back on the boat. the wind is a very gentle 30 knots gusting to 45. no more 76 knots.

  1. And you thought our real adventure was going to start when we hit the ocean! Good to hear you guys and especially the boat is safe in it's web because now my adventure can begin. Keep the posts coming - and see you Thursday!

  2. Good that you are all OK. Best I can tell you were 190 km from the centre of the storm. Enjoy the calm.

  3. I talked to some people on the Haverstraw FD - what you went through is unbelievable. Best wishes. If you publish here that you need something, I will drive down there to help you.

  4. Glad to hear you both survived! (I called this morning, Rob and since Sky was out walking the dog, ended up talking to your Mom, who clearly got the "Mom version" of events!!!! Slept well, huh? ;) ) Hope the rest of the voyage is considerably less, um, adventurous.

  5. Saw the pictures relayed by Sky. That is one LUCKY boat!!
Hopefully it is possible for you to break out of the marina. From my armchair it appears that there is a weather window Nov. 1 thru Nov. 4 for going directly from Sandy Hook, NJ to Hampton, VA. On the other hand, once in the ocean there may not be any hidy holes to run for if the wind were to take a sudden turn. The NJ barrier islands got badly washed out. Cape May also got pretty beat up. Will continue to look for intel on condition of ports along the way.

  6. The other factor is that there is debris floating everywhere. Sailing will be tricky and night sailing dangerous. Have heard that the Gulf Stream is probably full of hazards coming up from the south.

  7. Sailing over the Atlantic City boardwalk, or a Toyota, or a sycamore, would be a real drag.

Glad to hear you made it through.

76kts on the masthead. That's sick.

Remember, a good flight is any flight you can walk away from... a great flight is when you can use the plane again.

So far it's a great cruise, and I hope it stays that way!
